Jane Yates

Jane has been the Humanist member on Cumbrian SACRE for over ten years, with eight years as Chair.  She has most recently become the Professional Adviser for RE for her SACRE.  Previously, Jane was a primary RE Lead, teaching a weekly RE lesson from Reception to Y6.  She has also recently taught KS3 RE in a large secondary school in Cumbria, which has deepened her understanding of transition from KS2 to KS3 for RE. Most recently, Jane has become a teacher trainer and school speaker for Humanists UK.

Jane is a SAPERE Philosophy for Children(P4C) trainer and manages a number of RE and P4C projects, including the joint Cumbrian SACRE/Cumbria DEC Virtual Voices in Religious Education (VVRE) Project funded by Culham St Gabriel's Trust and the SAPERE Thinking Together through Science and RE Project funded by Templeton World Foundation as part of Big Questions in Classrooms(BQiC). She is currently supporting two schools on the ARIEAC Young Ambassadors for RE Project with a focus on Freedom of Religion or Belief.

During 2022-2023, Jane completed Stage 2 of the Culham St Gabriel's Trust Leadership Programme, and is delighted to be mentoring on the Leadership Scholarship programme in 2024-2025.  She is passionate about providing meaningful RE for all pupils and collaborating with teachers to develop innovative curriculum initiatives.
