Magnifying Magnificent Muslims

Magnifying Magnificent Muslims: Celebrating their impact and legacy.

This is a timely toolkit produced by the NEU in collaboration with Educate Against Islamophobia which helps primary school educators facilitate conversations around Islamophobia and Muslim contributions within the classroom. It is beautifully designed and easy to navigate.
Recognising that children learn well when they feel seen and heard as well as reflected within the syllabus, material has been designed to dispel misconceptions, create positive learning objectives and encourage understanding and respect.

The toolkit includes:
- A definition of Islamophobia and its impacts
- Interesting case studies of Islamophobia
- Suggestions of story books that dispel myths about Muslims or have Muslim protagonists
-A mathematics module which looks at Arabic numerals and the magnificent polymath Al- Khwarizmi who gave us algebra and algorithms
-A science module which looks at light and the work of the polymath Ibn- Al Haytham along with his scientific method
- A history module that introduces Britain’s first Mosque
-An art module that examines the work of William Morris and how he found inspiration from Arabesque art
and much more.

The toolkit has material for standalone lessons and links to suggested classroom activities and further resources.

As Islamophobia Awareness Month fast approaches in November, this is a very valuable toolkit for the classroom.
